Over the years I have been online I have been involved in many different fandoms. Some as just a reader and others as both a reader and a writer.
I tend to gravitate towards a particular pairing, so much so that I can't read/write either character in a relationship with any other character except the one I 'ship'. I guess you can call me a shipper reader/writer.
Over the past decade I have read more fandoms than I can possibly remember, let alone recite here, so I won't attempt to do so.
Some fandoms I have moved on from I doubt I'll return to but others I seem to periodically drift back into, a couple of examples would be Charmed fanfiction, I've drifted in and out of that fandom several times before and after the show ended. Another is slash fiction based on the characters of Jim/Blair in the TV show "The Sentinel". Same for the cult British show "The Professionals".
I have written mostly within the 'ships' Cordelia/Angel(us) from both Angel: The Series and it's predecessor Buffy, and the slash pairing of Steve Sloane/Jesse Travis on the show Diagnosis Murder. I actually ran archives devoted to these pairings, both on their own domain with paid hosting as they proved too popular for free hosts as even with a mirror site visitors where complaining about not getting into the site because of bandwidth excess.
My first fanfictions posted online where actually my only 'non-shippy' ones, two short ficlets in the fandom "The New Professionals" and posted at CI5 Operational Control. A fanbased site devoted to the 1990's remake of the 70's show I mention above.
Currently I spend a lot of time - note most of my fic reading time - on the slash pairing of Jack/Ianto from the show Torchwood.
I came a very circular route to this ship/fandom, I was annoyed with a sense of deja vu I was experiencing a few months ago when my nephews where watching a BBC TV show. The lead actress and the character she played seemed familiar but I couldn't for the life of me figure out where I knew her from.
It turned out the show was "The Sarah Jane Adventures" and some online searching led me to her originally playing the Sarah Jane in the 70's in the classic "Doctor Who" serials. As I was born in 1971 to me the Doctor was Jon Pertwee, and even though I didn't actively watch the show I did see it while the grown ups watched it hence my deja vu feelings.
This led me to search out the original series and over the past few months I've been watching a lot of Classic DW, finding that Sarah Jane was my favourite companion I searched out her guest appearances in the New DW which led me to encountering Jack Harkness which in turn led me to Torchwood.
You see what I mean ... totally circular route ... but then it's not the first or only fandom I've got in without ever watching actually watching it. Believe me I read a heck of a lot Janto fic before watching any episodes of Torchwood.
I intend this journal to be where I share the shows, fics, characters and so on that I like. Also once I track down some of my fanfiction I'll post it here. I haven't written any in around 7 years at least but I must admit to being a bit more than tempted by the Janto pairing to do just that.
I'll just have to wait and see how I go.
I originally was going to post some of my fic on my personal blog but after finding the sheer volume of anti-fanfic sentiment out there - I had honestly never came across it before earlier this year - I opted to create a 100% devoted fandom journal where I could post my fic and discuss other fandom related topics I want.
Also it allows me to keep it all in one place so to speak. Since my having closed my archive sites a few years ago my fanfiction is scattered between the limited other archives I allowed to post it. I never did get around to putting it on my fanfiction.net profile but as a lot is ADULT rated I will feel better putting it here with the warning than on FF.net.
